The Royal Navy, where every sailor received a daily ration of rum (one eighth of an imperial pint a day) from 1655 until 1970, Black Tot Day. Rum, it is now believed to have originated from Venezuela before migrating to the Caribbean, where much is manufactured today from sugar cane.
