Camel Blanket Rug – GP&J Baker
This beautiful design was inspired by ‘Camel Blankets’ found in GP & J Baker’s world renowned archive sourced from a time when George Percival and James Baker imported exotic textiles and rugs from Constantinople, now Istanbul. Beautiful in their own right, these blankets were used to wrap and transport more expensive Turkish carpets to protect them on their travels to the major cities of the world and have now inspired this fabulous rug design.

The company was founded in 1884 by brothers George Percival and James Baker establishing an inheritance full of innovation and drama. Avid and discerning collectors of rare and iconic designs, the brothers began what has become one of the largest and most exciting privately owned textile archives in the world.
The company’s most popular designs printed in the early 1900s showed naturalistic drawn English garden flowers, and this became part of the enduring GP & J Baker style. George Percival Baker was a passionate horticulturist himself, becoming a well-known figure in the Royal Horticultural Society.
