Burnt Carpet – Seletti
Since 2000, Italian artist Loredana Longo has explored the impact of language in art. The “Burnt” rug collection, debuted in London in 2019, transforms traditional Oriental rugs into canvases for politically and culturally resonant quotes through a unique burning technique. Using phrases from historical figures—like “THE DREAM SHALL NEVER DIE” (Ted Kennedy) and “UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL” (Winston Churchill)—Longo creates striking pieces where fire forms each letter. This process of combustion marks a powerful juxtaposition: the destruction inherent in burning versus the creation of a lasting statement.
